A Welcome Addition

I got to welcome the newest member to my family this month!  I purchased a new sewing machine and I’m super excited about it!

My wonderful husband cut out an opening in my sewing table to accommodate the larger machine so it is flush with the table top and I can have a larger quilting area! It is going to be perfect to try out some free motion quilting! I can’t wait!

I LOVE my little Janome DC2010, but it’s throat area is only 6 inches and that makes quilting anything above a crib size quilt a hassle.

So, I found this Babylock Jazz II with a 12 INCH THROAT!! What?!?!?!!?

I can’t wait to crank out a queen or king size quilt on this baby!!

I am going to keep my beloved Janome and use it for piecing and as a “travel” machine since it is smaller and lighter than the Babylock.

I already have a couple of quilt sandwiches ready to go!! Woo Hoo!!

Happy Quilting! -Alison

2019 – New Year, New Goals

As usual, everyone is talking about their big New Year’s Resolutions – lose weight, stitch more, run a marathon, etc., etc., etc.

I try not to make resolutions because I know myself, and myself usually doesn’t stick to them.  And then I feel like a big fat failure!

So, in order to keep from feeling like a big fat failure, I avoid “New Year’s Resolutions” like the plague.

That being said, I have set some “goals” for this year.  I find this usually helps keep me motivated.  And honestly, I really, really like to make lists.  I know, it’s weird.

Here is my To Do List for 2019!

Some items on the list were started years ago and now need to be turned into the final product.  Some items are halfway finished and some others haven’t even been started yet.  Some of them are cross stitch projects, but most of them are quilty pleasures.

And, most importantly, I want to start blogging again to chart my progress and keep me motivated.

I look forward to a very crafty year!

A Quilting Table

For Christmas, I wanted a new sewing table.  For years, I have used an old computer desk and it was just no good.  I wanted the bed of my sewing machine to be level with the table top to make sewing easier.  I looked for a premade table to purchase and, oh boy, were they expensive!  Even the used tables were outrageous!  Way more money than I wanted to spend.  (I prefer to spend my money on stitching supplies and quilt fabric.)

Then, I had the brilliant idea to search the web for plans on how to make my own table.  And, voila!  I found numerous tutorials on how to make your own custom sewing table. I ended up using the easy to follow instructions of the Blue Dinosaurs blog.  She uses an Ikea INGO table and a few simple supplies found at your local hardware store.  As luck would have it, there is an Ikea store just down the road from me.

So, I did what any self-respecting grown woman would do – I begged and pleaded with my wonderful husband to make this project for me.  And he said yes!  Did I say how wonderful he is?   He even went to Ikea without me to buy the table.  And words cannot describe how much he dislikes that store.  He is a great guy, isn’t he?

This is the result.

Isn’t it beautiful?  I love it!  It still needs a little sanding and eventually I will paint it a pretty color.

I can’t wait to use it!
